"Biutiful"
The DVD cover shows a close up of the main actor of the film “Javier Bardem” staring into the distance, his facial expressions look almost as if he’s saying something is beautiful the reason I think this is because he looks slightly stunned as his mouth is slightly open and his eyes look sparkly s if he is about to cry. He has scruffy hair and is unshaven, wearing a dark jacket. The character looks like a masculine male with his visible facial hair and dark clothing. He looks like maybe an unorganized individual, maybe unemployed. He seems to look very tired and has a lot of sadness behind his eyes which could represent that he is not happy with his life. The fact that the actor isn’t “beautiful” makes you wonder why the film has this title. There is little light on the characters face which could again link with sadness or even guilt. The only really bright part of him is a small patch at the back of his head, this could tell us that there may be a small hint of happiness in his life, or it may represent that he isn’t such a bad person and there is some good in him.
Behind the character there is an out of focus background with dark blue sky representing the night time, there’s also houses with a white railing and five bright lights. The overall background is quite dark which could symbolize some sort of sadness is going to happen within the storyline, this links in with his emotional facial expressions.
The colours of the text also contrast well with the colours of the image. The actors surname “Bardem” is written in a bold bright red which is quite striking in contrast with the majority of the DVD. This is an interesting choice in colour as red is usually associated with aggression, blood, danger and love. Whereas the word “Biutiful” is in a bold white font. It is very ironic that the word “Biutiful” is written in white as the colour represents purity, innocence, cleanliness and peace. The red font could tell us that the main actor may not be pure and clean but he is a loving person, whereas the white font could tell us that he is not beautiful but he will come across someone/something that is.
